A frequency of 15 minutes (or less) means that looking at schedules is not necessary, you can just show up to the station. I would say the biggest (non $10+ billion) improvement would be all day 15 minute frequency, as opposed to the current ~30 minute frequency. The service feels how trains should be between all US cities that are these distances apart, and though it might not be to the standard of most inter-city routes in Europe, it is still quite good. I could genuinely see an average person living in New Rochelle use the train to get to Stamford, even if they have a car. Along the way there are several people getting on and off at the various cities, and that makes sense, given how many there are on the route. Wow, it felt like I was riding a true inter-city rail service, not simply a train for commuters. Then I rode the New Haven line, all the way to New Haven, as well as stopping to spend some time in Stamford on the way back. Ossining has a cute downtown up a fairly steep hill (that provides a nice view on the way up), as well as a very nice riverwalk with great views.Īll of these towns were cool to visit, but almost all of these people are taking the train to/from NYC, maybe Yonkers. Tarrytown has a nice riverwalk with a cool view of the Tappan Zee bridge, cliffs and hills along the river, and a view of NYC's Midtown in the distance (I did not go to Tarrytown's downtown). Yonkers has a nice downtown that feels small but still urban. I spent part of one day riding the Hudson Line to Yonkers, then Tarrytown, then Ossining.
